Uppinangady Police have taken into custody Muhammad Shahbad (26) and Jamsheed (25), residents of Mudigere, in connection with a daylight theft at an arecanut and forest produce purchase centre in the Shriram Gopal Kamat Commercial Complex near Gandhi Park.
The accused allegedly broke into the shop on October 27, stealing Rs5 lakh in cash along with a bag containing important documents and cheques. The incident occurred when the shop owner, Vasanth, stepped out briefly, leaving the cash drawer unlocked and the shutter open. On returning, he discovered the theft and filed a complaint at the Uppinangady Police Station.
Both Shahbad and Jamsheed had previously been apprehended by N.R. Pura Police in Chikkamagaluru in connection with another theft case. During interrogation, they reportedly confessed to the Uppinangady robbery. Subsequently, Uppinangady police secured their custody, conducted a spot inspection, and formally registered the case.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are probing if the duo may be linked to additional thefts in the region.
