Ahmedabad Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials have arrested a 32-year-old man, Upendra Kumar, for allegedly cheating passengers by issuing fake railway e-tickets at Ahmedabad Railway Station.
According to the complaint, the accused generated counterfeit PDF tickets with fabricated PNR numbers on his mobile phone and presented them as confirmed bookings.
The complaint was filed by Vijay Kumar (27), a cleaning worker at Tata Motors Sanand Plant and resident near Chharodi Railway Station. Vijay Kumar stated that on March 3, he and two friends approached the reservation counter to book tickets to Banda in Uttar Pradesh. A man claiming to be a railway ticket agent approached them, offering confirmed tickets for an extra Rs50 per ticket. Kumar provided the travel details and paid Rs2,000 for three tickets, which the suspect later sent via WhatsApp.
On March 11, Kumar was informed by RPF personnel that the tickets issued on March 7 were fake. Online verification of the PNR numbers confirmed the tickets were invalid. CCTV footage from the station helped identify the suspect as Upendra Kumar, a resident of Rewa district, Madhya Pradesh.
Officials said a case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, covering cheating, forgery, and criminal deception. Investigations are ongoing to determine if more passengers were defrauded.
