UP EOW Arrests 23 in Rs580 Cr Scam Operation Shikanja

Major crackdown on absconding economic offenders

Uttar Pradesh: In a significant statewide crackdown, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the UP Police arrested 23 wanted absconding accused during a special operation named Operation Shikanja, carried out from October 9 to October 13.

Launched under the directives of EOW Director-General Neera Rawat, the operation targeted long-standing absconders involved in high-profile financial scams across the state. Eight specialized teams, including surveillance units, were deployed at headquarters and sector levels to conduct coordinated raids across multiple districts.

Key arrests include:

Sharad Prasad Chaturvedi, the alleged mastermind behind the massive Rs580 crore UP Industrial and Investment Corporation Limited scam

Raj Kumar Mittal, accused in the Rs71.85 lakh Avadh Fertilizers Ltd scam in Mihipurwa, Bahraich

Sachin Dutta, linked to the Rs55.50 lakh Balaji Constructions financial fraud

Ravindra Pal Singh, involved in a fraud case related to Ramail Industries Ltd, Jalalabad (Shahjahanpur)

Rajmani Verma, wanted in the Rs17.51 crore Government Medical College, Bahraich scam

EOW officials confirmed that the operation will continue to track and arrest remaining absconders while recovering misappropriated public funds.
