Belthangady police have arrested a man in possession of 55.48 grams of MDMA during a routine patrol. The accused has been identified as Ummar Shareef (42), a resident of Derlakatte.
On Saturday at around 4:00 pm, PSI Anand M. of Belthangady Police Station, along with his team, noticed a man sitting suspiciously in a white car parked near MA Complex at Maddadka Pette in Kuvettu village, Belthangady taluk. The individual was detained for questioning.
During interrogation, Ummar Shareef reportedly admitted that he had brought the banned narcotic MDMA with the intention of selling it. Police recovered the drug stored in eight plastic covers hidden inside four cigarette packets, totaling 55.48 grams, with an estimated market value of Rs5,54,800.
According to police sources, Shareef stated that the MDMA had been supplied to him by Nawshad, a resident of Sunnat Kere.
The police also seized the car used to transport the narcotics, bearing registration number KA-19 MG-4669, valued at approximately Rs6,00,000.
A case has been registered at Belthangady Police Station under Crime No. 01/2026, invoking Sections 8(c) and 22(c) of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is ongoing.
