In a disturbing late-night hit-and-run case, a 35-year-old woman was left critically injured and her pet dog killed when a speeding car allegedly driven by Ullas Naik struck them near Chicalim junction on Friday.

The woman, identified as Rani Bind, had taken her dog for a walk and was waiting near the road divider when the incident occurred. Eyewitnesses said the car emerged from an internal road at high speed, hitting the duo with full force. The dog died instantly, and Rani sustained serious injuries.

The same vehicle continued to drive recklessly, colliding with two other cars before jumping over the road divider and landing on the opposite side.

Rani Bind was rushed to Goa Medical College (GMC) in Bambolim, where doctors confirmed her condition remains critical. A family member, Jatin Amonkar, urged authorities to take strict action: “The accused must be arrested and denied easy bail so that a strong message is sent that human lives matter.”

The Vasco police have registered a case and are continuing the investigation. Charges under relevant sections related to vehicular assault, negligence, and hit-and-run are expected to be filed. Police have yet to confirm if Ullas Naik is in custody.
