In a dramatic turn of events, Ujjain police successfully apprehended five members of the infamous Mewat gang from Haryana as they were preparing for a robbery near a petrol pump in Runija. The suspects were nabbed thanks to a meticulously planned operation, acting on a tip-off received by the police.
Additional SP Mayur Khandelwal revealed that Police Station In-Charge Satyendra Chaudhary and his team swiftly executed the plan, setting up a siege around the suspects’ location and arresting the gang members.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
Nasir Khan
Rafiq Khan
Anish Khan
Aashiq Mewati (from Alwar, Rajasthan)
Zahid Fakir (from Ujjain)
Four of the suspects are known members of the notorious Mewat gang.
During interrogation, the gang members admitted to stealing pipes worth lakhs from the Narmada Jal Yojana project. They also confessed to being involved in previous loot and robbery incidents across the region.
Police recovered valuable items from the suspects, including:
A 315 bore pistol
Two cars
Country-made liquor
A dagger
A grinder
A tommy gun
And other stolen items, all valued at over Rs33 lakh.
In recognition of their swift and effective action, SP Pradeep Sharma announced a cash reward of Rs10,000 for the police team involved in this operation.
