Ujjain police on Friday arrested five accused involved in stealing a truck loaded with iron rods worth approximately Rs29 lakh. The truck was stolen from Badnagar two days prior to the arrest.
The accused hail from different states—Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu—and are part of an interstate theft gang.
On May 7, Rajesh Barod, a resident of Badnagar, filed a complaint reporting the theft of a truck carrying 18-feet-long iron rods parked on his plot. Upon waking, he found the vehicle missing.
The Badnagar police, with assistance from the cyber cells of Ujjain, Bhopal, and Hoshangabad, tracked down the suspects using CCTV footage. The accused were caught in Barnagar, where they had posed as laborers.
The arrested individuals are:
Ajay Pawar (25), son of Dharmaraj Pawar (gang leader)
Kunwar Singh (22), son of Pila Kalam Singh
Ratan Singh (24), son of Kalam Singh
T. Srinivasan (44), son of Thangaraj
Neeraj Kumar (21), son of Sher Singh Korche
Additional Superintendent of Police Mayur Khandelwal said that the accused are being taken on remand, and further cases may surface following interrogation.
