Kira, Uganda: Teachers Albert Pabeku and Vincent Muheki have been sentenced to one year and two months in jail or a fine of Shs5 million by the Grade One Magistrate’s Court in Kira. The two were convicted for possessing and vending the leaked 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) papers.
The court found Pabeku and Muheki guilty of engaging in the illegal distribution of exam materials. Their arrest comes after an investigation into the unauthorized access and dissemination of PLE papers for the upcoming exams.
Meanwhile, two other teachers, Kevin Bakashaba and Hosea Oyet, denied the charges and are currently awaiting further proceedings. The teachers’ actions have raised concerns about the integrity of the education system, with many calling for stricter measures to prevent exam malpractices.
In a related development, a headteacher from Kayunga district was also arrested for involvement in the leak, further deepening the scandal. Authorities have vowed to intensify efforts to curb exam fraud in the country as the 2024 PLE approaches.
