In a major breakthrough in the PWD Quarters robbery case, the Udupi Town police have apprehended two inter-state burglars and recovered stolen valuables including silver, gold, and cash totaling over Rs 86,000.
The arrests were made under the supervision of Udupi district SP Hariram Shankar, IPS. The investigation was led by Additional SP Sudhakar Naik, DySP Prabhu D T, Udupi Town Inspector Manjunath Badiger, and PSIs Bharatesh Kankanawadi and Eranna Shiragumpi, supported by their team.
The case originated from a complaint by Kushal H R, a resident of PWD Quarters, Mission Compound. The burglary occurred between 6:00 pm on July 19 and 7:00 am on July 20, when the accused forced entry by removing screws from the door latch, unlocking the main door, and accessing the bedroom.
The burglars found a key hidden inside a sewing machine, used it to open a cupboard, and stole numerous silver ornaments and cash.
Investigators reviewed CCTV footage near NH-66, which helped identify the suspects. Following a swift operation, the police arrested Bangad alias Bangu alias Ramesh Jawan Singh (37) and Kaliya alias Kalu (25), both from Kushki taluk, Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh.
Recovered items include:
Silver ornaments (anklets, waist belts, bangles, toe rings, waist chains, silver plates, kadas, bracelets) weighing 681.830 grams valued at Rs 80,970
470 milligrams of gold worth Rs 4,250
Rs 1,700 in cash
Both accused have prior criminal records: Ramesh faces 11 pending theft cases in another state, and Kalu is linked to three theft cases in Udupi. They reportedly target houses mainly on weekends.
The accused have been produced before the court, while police continue to search for another suspect who remains absconding.
