Fugitive bank fraud accused Udit Khullar was arrested in India on Friday following his deportation from the United Arab Emirates, officials confirmed. The operation was coordinated by the CBI through Interpol in collaboration with UAE authorities.
Khullar, who was wanted by the Special Cell of Delhi Police in connection with a Rs4.55 crore scam, was apprehended at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi, and immediately taken into custody for further questioning.
According to investigators, Khullar had been evading arrest for months and was finally traced to the UAE. A request for his deportation was made through Interpol channels to NCB-Abu Dhabi, resulting in his handover to Indian authorities.
The investigation, initiated in March 2024, revealed Khullar as the mastermind behind a large-scale property loan fraud network, which also involved Sachin Mittal, Vishal Oberoi, Himanshu Rasgotra, and Shobhit Agarwal.
This syndicate allegedly cheated victims by offering to sell them non-existent properties. Victims were persuaded to secure home loans, which were then funneled into shell accounts operated by the group.
To facilitate the fraud, the group submitted forged property papers, builder-buyer agreements, income tax returns, and other fake documents to various nationalised and private banks.
Khullar is accused of orchestrating at least three major fraudulent home loans, forming part of what officials described as a “well-knit criminal conspiracy.” After escaping to Dubai, he continued to evade law enforcement until his arrest and return to India.
The case remains under investigation, with further arrests expected.
