EDMOND, Okla. — Adam Dorrel, head football coach for the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos, was arrested on the evening of Thursday, April 3, 2025, on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) after police responded to a reckless driving complaint.
Around 5:11 p.m., Edmond police were called to the area of Smiling Hill Boulevard and South Bryant Avenue following a tip about a blue Ford Bronco driving erratically and striking a curb.
Upon locating the vehicle parked in the roadway, officers identified the driver as Dorrel. According to the police report, Dorrel exhibited slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and smelled of alcohol. Though he initially denied drinking, Dorrel later admitted to consuming alcohol.
Police stated that Dorrel refused to complete field sobriety tests and was reluctant to exit the vehicle. Officers had to assist him out of the car, and noted he was unsteady on his feet.
A ceramic Starbucks mug containing whiskey was discovered inside the vehicle. Dorrel was arrested at 5:29 p.m., and his car was impounded.
Following his arrest, Dorrel was transported to Edmond City Jail, where he refused breath and blood tests and requested to speak with an attorney.
As of now, no official statement has been released by the University of Central Oklahoma regarding Dorrel’s arrest.
