LEXINGTON PARK, Md. – A 33-year-old man, Tyree Dirreck Shields, has been arrested and charged with multiple felony offenses after an alleged assault led deputies to find him in possession of a loaded handgun.
Around 3:20 a.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 46000 block of Wineberry Lane following a report of a physical assault.
The victim reported that a verbal argument escalated into a physical confrontation, and that the suspect had fled the residence on foot. Deputies located a man nearby matching the suspect’s description. Upon contact, the man initially provided a false name, but was later identified as Tyree Dirreck Shields of Lexington Park through his Maryland driver’s license.
During the arrest, deputies found a loaded handgun concealed in his jacket pocket. Shields, who is legally prohibited from possessing firearms due to previous convictions, was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown.
He has been charged with 11 counts, including:
Two counts of first-degree assault
Second-degree assault
Providing false identity
Knowingly carrying a loaded handgun on person
Wearing, carrying, and transporting a handgun on person
Possession of a firearm after a disqualifying conviction
Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony or crime of violence
Felony firearm possession
Possession of ammunition
Shields is currently being held without bond, and further proceedings are pending.
