Boise, ID (CBS2) — A substitute teacher and assistant baseball coach employed by the Boise School District has been arrested and charged with child sexual abuse.
Tyler Chorjel, 25, was taken into custody on April 9, 2025, following a criminal investigation triggered by police in Newport Beach, California. Authorities there reported an adult male had been posing as a 16-year-old boy online to solicit explicit photos and videos from two underage girls. The suspect was identified as Chorjel.
Boise Police confirmed Chorjel’s arrest and charged him with sexual abuse of a minor under the age of 16. He was booked into the Ada County Jail as the investigation continues.
Following the arrest, the Boise School District was notified and quickly terminated Chorjel’s employment. He had been working as an assistant baseball coach at both East Junior High and Les Bois Junior High during the 2023–2024 academic year. Chorjel was also approved as a substitute teacher starting March 1, 2024, though he did not serve in that role during the 2023–2024 school year. In the current 2024–2025 school year, he had substituted for a total of 8.5 days across various schools.
The case remains under investigation, and authorities urge anyone with additional information to come forward.
