The driver responsible for the death of White Mills postmaster Elizabeth A. Struble in a crash last October has pleaded guilty to felony charges in Wayne County Court of Common Pleas.

Tyler Nathaniel Canfield, 28, of Honesdale, pleaded guilty on August 21 to a second-degree felony of homicide by DUI, along with charges including third-degree felony homicide by vehicle, escape, second DUI offense, and reckless driving. He is scheduled for sentencing on October 16.

On October 5, 2024, Struble, 61, was driving on Route 6 in Palmyra Township when she was struck by Canfield’s small SUV. The impact proved fatal, with Deputy Coroner Mark James pronouncing Struble dead at the scene.

Despite orders from Officer Lee Rowan to remain at the scene, Canfield fled down an embankment. Sgt. Aaron Bertholf and several bystanders pursued and apprehended him about a quarter-mile away.

Elizabeth “Beth” Struble had served as the White Mills postmaster since 2007, beginning as officer-in-charge before her official appointment on September 29 of that year.

Canfield is represented by public defender Steven Burlein.
