A suspect accused of killing a woman in Washington, D.C., earlier this year has been arrested in Connecticut, authorities said.
Police in Washington announced that 35-year-old Tyjuan Bazemore, of Middletown, Connecticut, was taken into custody with assistance from the Connecticut Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force. He is accused of fatally shooting 27-year-old Nyesha Walden-Hatcher inside a residence in the District.
The shooting occurred on Feb. 2, 2026, when officers responded around 3 a.m. to a 911 hang-up call in the 3100 block of 16th Street Northwest. When officers arrived, they discovered Walden-Hatcher inside the home suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators later identified Bazemore as a suspect in the case, and a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant was issued. Authorities determined that he had fled to Connecticut after the shooting.
Members of the Connecticut Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force, working alongside federal and local law enforcement, located Bazemore in Middletown and took him into custody.
Officials said Bazemore was extradited back to Washington, D.C., where he has been formally charged with second-degree murder while armed in connection with the killing.
Authorities have not publicly released further details about what led investigators to identify Bazemore as the suspect or the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The case remains under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department.
