In separate incidents on the outskirts of Madurai, two youths were brutally murdered in the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

The first incident occurred in Silaiman police limits, where 17-year-old S Alagarsamy was hacked to death by a gang around 2 a.m. on Wednesday. Alagarsamy, who worked odd jobs and was reportedly in an inebriated state, was called out of his home by the attackers. Preliminary investigations suggest the murder might have been the result of a drunken brawl. The Silaiman police have launched an investigation into the case.

In a second incident, S Kamalesh, a 24-year-old from Sikkandarchavadi, was murdered after a violent quarrel. Kamalesh had returned home on vacation from Coimbatore, where he worked in a departmental store. While drinking with friends on the Sikkandarchavadi – Alanganallur road, a verbal altercation turned violent, and Kamalesh was fatally stabbed. Though he was rushed to Govt Rajaji Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries on the way.

A special police team later arrested four individuals in connection with the murder. The arrested include siblings Alagu Rajesh, 24, and Sundara Raja, 22, along with two accomplices from the same locality. Police revealed that Kamalesh had previously taunted the siblings, and in recent months, he had made disparaging remarks about Raja’s wife. This led to a heated argument while drinking on Tuesday, culminating in the stabbing.

The four arrested individuals have been charged with murder, and investigations continue.
