In a significant bust by Museum Police, two youths involved in the wholesale distribution of cannabis were arrested in Thiruvananthapuram. The arrested individuals have been identified as Arun Babu (36) of Thirumala and Parthipan (29) of Malayinkeezhu. Both are believed to be major players in the city’s drug distribution network.
The arrests followed detailed investigations into earlier drug-related arrests. Earlier this month, two youths, Ananthu (22) of Peroorkada and Vineesh (22) of Vattiyoorkavu, were apprehended in Sasthamangalam for possessing 6 kg of cannabis. During questioning, both youths provided vital information that led to the identification of Arun and Parthipan as key figures in the narcotics trade.
According to the police, Ananthu and Vineesh disclosed that the cannabis seized in Sasthamangalam had been brought to them under Parthipan’s instructions. A deeper investigation, including the verification of phone records and bank statements, confirmed that Arun and Parthipan were pivotal in the wholesale cannabis distribution across various locations in Thiruvananthapuram city and district.
Arun Babu has a criminal history with over 15 cases to his name, including charges under the Arms Act, IPC Section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), and various assault and excise-related offenses. Parthipan, with more than 10 criminal cases, is also linked to charges under the Arms Act, narcotics laws, assault, and robbery.
The arrests were made as part of Operation D-HUNT, an ongoing anti-drug drive targeting drug trafficking networks in Thiruvananthapuram. Both Arun and Parthipan have been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.
