In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, police in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district arrested two women drug peddlers in separate operations on Sunday, officials reported.
In the first operation, the Anti-Drug Squad of the Tirap police, in coordination with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), intercepted Chumtoi Mossang, a resident of Lazu village. Acting on a tip-off, the team set up a naka near Thinsa village, leading to the seizure of 142 grams of heroin worth approximately Rs4.80 lakh concealed inside 12 soap cases. The operation was led by Khonsa police station officer in-charge Ngowang Rango, said Tirap SP Aditya.
In a related operation, police along with Assam Rifles apprehended 33-year-old Nyamyang Namet, also from Lazu village. Authorities recovered 82.5 grams of heroin hidden in seven plastic soap cases, as per a report by the District Information and Public Relations Officer (DIPRO).
Both women have been taken into custody, and investigations are ongoing to dismantle the drug networks operating in the region.
