Ahmedabad: The Crime Branch of Ahmedabad Police has arrested two women and recovered stolen gold jewellery belonging to an NRI woman, Saryuben, who had come from the United States to attend a religious programme in Gujarat. The arrests and recovery were made within hours of the theft.
Saryuben was carrying ancestral gold jewellery to remodel for her son and daughter-in-law when the theft occurred during her bus journey from Adalaj Trimandir. She immediately filed a complaint at the Satellite Police Station.
Using technical inputs and local intelligence, investigators traced and arrested the accused:
Ramila Parmar (28), Vadaj
Sarla Ganva (34), Nirnaynagar
Police revealed that the accused, residents of Dahod district, came to Ahmedabad under the pretext of seeking manual labor work. They reportedly used children as a cover to move unnoticed in crowded areas while committing the theft.
The recovered items included:
Five gold coins (20g each)
One gold coin (2.5g)
One gold bangle (20g)
Rudraksha gold bead necklace (15g)
Total gold recovered: approximately 137.5g
The swift action by Ahmedabad Police prevented the stolen jewellery from being melted or sold, highlighting the effectiveness of prompt investigation and coordination.
