ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa — Two women were arrested early Wednesday morning, Dec. 10, in Rock Rapids on charges including first-degree theft.
Brandy Lee Decora, 24, of Winnebago, Nebraska, and Prairee Louise Springer, 21, of Sioux City, called the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office to report that they had stolen a vehicle and ran out of gas on the 100 block of First Avenue.
When deputies arrived, Decora was in the passenger seat of a stopped 2016 Nissan Rogue, and Springer was in the back seat. Decora displayed signs of intoxication, including bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and the odor of alcohol. She failed field sobriety tests and admitted to driving the vehicle while drinking.
The vehicle’s owner, a man from Le Mars, had reported his car and iPhone 14 stolen to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office. Springer admitted she had taken the iPhone and car keys while intoxicated and could not recall the victim’s residence.
Decora was charged with first-degree theft, operating under the influence — third or subsequent offense, and no valid driver’s license. Springer faces first-degree theft and third-degree theft charges. First-degree theft involves stolen property valued over $10,000, while third-degree theft applies to property valued between $751 and $1,500.
