Drugs, grow operation found near city park

WILLMAR, Minn. — Two Willmar men are facing multiple felony drug charges after a search warrant at a Kandiyohi County residence last week uncovered methamphetamine, a marijuana grow operation, and drugs inside the home near Southfield Park.

44-year-old Joel Gomez and 43-year-old Joshua Lee Hanson were arrested Thursday following the raid on a 27th Avenue SW residence.

Authorities said Hanson was immediately taken into custody on active warrants. During the search, investigators found an indoor marijuana grow room in the garage with four mature and four immature plants. Hanson’s basement bedroom contained a vial and glass pipe that tested positive for methamphetamine. A pack and play for a child was also set up in a main floor bedroom.

A K9 unit discovered a glass jar buried in a woodpile outside, containing eight baggies with a total of 21.01 grams of methamphetamine, apparently packaged for sale.

Court records indicate neighbors had reported suspected drug activity at the residence. The proximity to a city park led to enhanced charges.

Gomez faces two felony counts of third-degree drug possession, including one for possessing drugs in a park zone. His next court appearance is November 19, and bail is set at $50,000.

Hanson faces felony third-degree drug possession in a park zone and felony storing meth paraphernalia in the presence of a child. His next court appearance is November 26, and he was released without bail.
