Two police officers from the UT Police have been arrested on charges of extorting money and drugs from a local drug peddler who had previously opened fire at them in Sector 38. Senior Constable Pardeep and Constable Surinder, both assigned to the Sector 38 police beat under Sector 39 police station, have come under investigation for their alleged involvement with drug peddlers.
The incident occurred on January 23 when a man fired at Pardeep and another officer, Senior Constable Deep, after Pardeep allegedly stopped him for a routine check. Following the incident, Pardeep filed a complaint, leading to the registration of a case at the Sector 39 police station.
However, further investigation by the District Crime Cell (DCC) led to the arrest of two individuals, Deepak Kumar Verma (38), also known as Deepu, and Rishab Sharma (27), both with criminal backgrounds. During questioning, Deepak revealed that he had previously been extorted by Pardeep. He accused the policemen of taking cash, drugs, and even a mobile phone from him. Deepak also claimed they had forcibly seized his gold chain in Sector 38.
The arrests highlight the growing concern over police involvement in illicit activities, particularly related to the local drug trade. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of these officers’ ties to criminal networks.
