In a significant operation in northern Kashmir, the Indian Army, in collaboration with J&K Police and the CRPF, arrested two suspects along with a cache of arms and ammunition in Bandipora on Thursday. The operation, which took place on the Gandbal-Hajin Road, led to the apprehension of the two individuals along with a recovery of one pistol, a pistol magazine, two hand grenades, an AK magazine, ammunition, and other war-like materials.
The Army confirmed the arrest via a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that further investigations are underway. The identities of the arrested suspects were not disclosed by the authorities, as the police continue to probe the case.
Meanwhile, in a separate crackdown, the Srinagar Police booked six notorious drug peddlers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT-NDPS Act). The arrested individuals, including Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh, Abid Rasool Dar, Raza Rauf Mirjan, Azan Parviaz Glitsaaz, Javaid Ahmad Wani, and Danish Ahmad Bhat, were detained after obtaining formal detention orders from the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir.
Police officials noted that these drug peddlers were heavily involved in the distribution of narcotics, particularly among the youth in Srinagar, contributing to the growing drug crisis in the region. They were also implicated in multiple NDPS Act cases across various police stations in the city. As part of the detention, the suspects have been moved to district jails in Udhampur, Poonch, and Rajouri.
