Two Rockford Men Arrested in Stolen Car Investigation

Lamarcus Smith and Kalen Watkins Face Multiple Charges After Police Pursuit

Two 20-year-old Rockford men, Lamarcus Smith and Kalen Watkins, were arrested on Sunday after a stolen car investigation led to a police pursuit. Rockford Police spotted the stolen vehicle at the Mobil Gas Station at Halsted and N. Main around 11:25 p.m. on March 30.

After the vehicle was located, Smith and Watkins fled on foot. Rockford Police K9 officers tracked them down, and Smith was arrested in the 3000 block of Church Street. Police recovered a loaded handgun from him. Watkins was spotted entering another car near Pierce Avenue and was arrested shortly after during a traffic stop.

Smith faces multiple charges, including Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Resisting Arrest, and No Valid Firearm Owner’s Identification. Watkins is charged with Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Resisting Arrest.
