In a successful joint operation between Assam and Meghalaya police, two suspected motorcycle thieves were arrested in Byrnihat. The accused, Hilbat Sangma (30) and Jipilson A Marak (28), were apprehended by officers from the Hatigaon Police Station in Guwahati.
During the arrest, law enforcement recovered a modified tool, believed to be used in the thefts. This tool is suspected to have been instrumental in the duo’s operations, allowing them to steal motorcycles across state lines.
The arrest underscores the increasing collaboration between police forces in India’s northeastern region to tackle interstate vehicle theft. Investigators are now working to uncover further connections and determine if the suspects are linked to other thefts in the area.
Both Sangma and Marak remain in custody as the investigation continues, with authorities looking to identify any accomplices involved in the thefts.
