Two men, including a key drug supplier from Ratlam, were arrested by the Crime Branch on Thursday with MD drugs valued at Rs 54 lakh seized from them.
Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya informed that acting on a tip-off, police intercepted two suspects behind the rickshaw stand near ESIC Hospital at Marimata Square. The men, identified as Gani Patel (31) of Khajrana and Mohsin Mew (31) from Jaora, Ratlam, admitted to being addicts and revealed their plan to smuggle and sell the drugs at inflated prices in the city.
Authorities recovered 54.78 grams of MD drugs, which carry an estimated market value of Rs 54 lakh internationally. A case has been registered under sections 8/22 of the NDPS Act, and further investigations are ongoing.
Gani Patel, who has studied up to class 11 and formerly worked in bottled water business, is a habitual offender and previously linked to a drug trafficking case involving 17.17 grams of MD drugs. He is also known to be an associate of Arbaaz, another accused already arrested in the same case.
Mohsin Mew, with education up to class 10 and a former welder, is a repeat offender with two prior NDPS convictions in Nagpur (Maharashtra) and Jaora, Ratlam, where he served jail terms.
