The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested two junior engineers (JEs), Jaiveer Singh and Sahil Kashyap, for their alleged involvement in the Kaithal Zila Parishad sanitation scam of 2021.
The ACB made the arrests as part of its ongoing investigation into the multi-crore scam, which came to light after a complaint was filed by Lilaram Gujjar, the then MLA, in 2021. The complaint alleged that Rs31.64 crore, received from the Panchayat Department for the creation of capital assets, was meant for sanitation works. However, it was claimed that ₹15.82 crore were misappropriated. The contractors were reportedly paid after deducting 35-40% as commission from the officials and employees involved.
In connection with the case, the ACB had earlier arrested several individuals, including the then SDO Naveen Kumar, then JE Jasbir Singh, accountant Kulwant Singh, and four contractors — Dilbag Singh, Abhay Sandhu, Anil Garg, and Rajesh Garg. A subsequent arrest was made of contractor Rohtash.
The ACB also mentioned that Rs14.65 lakh had been recovered so far from the accused. All arrested individuals are currently out on bail as per the court’s orders.
Both Jaiveer Singh and Sahil Kashyap were presented before a local court and sent to judicial custody. The investigation continues as the authorities work to uncover further details of the scam.
