In a significant anti-drug operation, Itanagar Capital Police arrested two inter-state drug peddlers, Urgen Dorjee (23) and Tithai Pou Golmei, and seized a total of 348.58 grams of heroin from their possession.
The operation started on May 31, when police received intelligence about Urgen Dorjee, suspected of peddling heroin in the region. The Itanagar Police team, led by SDPO Kengo Dirchi and under the supervision of SP Rohit Rajbir Singh, traced Dorjee to a beauty parlour near Delhi Public School in Lower Chimpu. Upon searching him, authorities found 41 vials of heroin, weighing 65 grams. The drugs were valued at Rs. 61,500.
During interrogation, Dorjee revealed that his supplier, Tithai Pou Golmei from Manipur, had been regularly supplying him with drugs. On June 2, police intercepted Golmei near DNGC Itanagar, recovering 283.58 grams of heroin from five soap boxes, valued at Rs. 7.5 lakh. Golmei was arrested, and both suspects were charged under the NDPS Act.
These arrests highlight the continuing efforts by law enforcement to tackle the rising issue of drug trafficking in Itanagar and across Northeast India.
