Two Georgia men were arrested in Russell County, Virginia, following a phone scam investigation. Dapri Da’Mann Eugene Lewis, 26, of Atlanta, and Quindarius De’Shawn Gibbs, 26, of Fairburn, were taken into custody on Tuesday.
According to the Russell County Sheriff’s Office, the arrests followed a report of a scam in which the victim was contacted by the men and tricked into giving them money. Officers met with the victim in the Castlewood area and developed a plan to apprehend the suspects.
In a joint operation involving the Russell County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, Wise County Sheriff’s Office, and the Coeburn Police Department, Lewis and Gibbs were arrested when they attempted to collect the money from the victim.
Both men were charged with obtaining money by false pretenses and conspiracy. Sheriff William J. Watson highlighted the case as “a great example of how agencies can pull together quickly to assist one another when crimes are reported or currently in the process of being committed.”
