EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) – Two teenagers are facing multiple felony charges in Edinburg following a string of vehicle burglaries on Easter Sunday, including the theft of a handgun and $2,000 in cash, according to local authorities.

At approximately 3:42 a.m. on Easter morning, Edinburg Police responded to reports of suspicious individuals jumping a fence near Hill Country Drive and Pin Oak Street. Officers located two teens matching the description at nearby Bicentennial Park. One suspect fled the scene, while the other — identified as 18-year-old Daniel Reyna — was detained, interviewed, and arrested.

Police say Reyna was found in possession of Xanax, a controlled substance, and quickly became a suspect in an earlier vehicle burglary reported that same night.

By 7:23 a.m., a second report came in from another victim in the 1000 block of Hill Country Drive, claiming a handgun and $2,000 in cash had been stolen from their vehicle. Investigators identified a second suspect, 17-year-old Angel Lopez, believed to be working with Reyna.

Detectives launched surveillance outside Lopez’s residence and later located his mother’s vehicle, confirming the pair had attended Easter church service. After stopping the car and speaking with Lopez’s mother, officers learned that Lopez was at an apartment on the 1800 block of W. Samano St.

With the mother’s permission, police searched the apartment and arrested Lopez, locating the stolen handgun during the search.

Charges Filed:
Daniel Reyna, 18

Burglary of a Vehicle

Theft of a Firearm

Possession of a Controlled Substance (Xanax)

Angel Lopez, 17

Burglary of a Vehicle

Theft of a Firearm

The investigation is ongoing, and both suspects remain in custody.
