FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Two students at Dillard High School were arrested on Thursday after allegedly beating a teacher in a violent attack captured on video, according to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.
Authorities identified the suspects as Jayvis L. McClover, 19, and Roddrick McQueen, 19, both students at the school. The incident occurred at approximately 2 p.m., when the two teens verbally threatened the teacher before launching a coordinated attack, police said.
Brutal Classroom Assault
According to investigators, McClover and McQueen punched the teacher multiple times in the face and head, knocking him to the ground. Even as the educator curled into a fetal position to protect himself, the students continued the assault, authorities said.
School security staff intervened, pulling the attackers away. The teacher suffered swelling, bruising, and back pain due to the attack.
Arrests and Charges
McClover and McQueen were arrested and charged with battery on a public or private education employee. Court records show that both students have been banned from returning to Dillard High School.
Calls for Stronger School Safety Measures
Following the attack, Daniel Foganholi Sr., a board member for the Florida Department of Education, condemned the incident as a “failure of respect, discipline, and accountability.”
“No educator should fear for their safety while doing their job. Schools must be places of learning, not battlegrounds,” Foganholi stated.
He called for stricter disciplinary policies, improved security measures, and a culture of respect for teachers to prevent future incidents.
“If we fail to act, we fail our educators, our students, and our future. Enough is enough,” he added.
The case remains under investigation.
