Two out-of-state men have been charged in connection with an armed robbery at a jewelry store in Maywood, New Jersey, in 2024, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
Daiker Yair Rivero Urbano, 28, of Detroit, was arrested, while Christian Ricardo Vera Castillo, 26, of Brooklyn, remains at large. The charges against Urbano include armed robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Castillo faces the same charges, with the addition of aggravated assault.
The robbery took place at a jewelry store on West Pleasant Avenue on April 23, 2024. Investigators said two men entered the store, brandished firearms at an employee and a customer, and briefly struggled with the employee before fleeing. They left behind duct tape and zip ties at the scene.
Authorities determined the suspects used two moped-style motorcycles and a motor vehicle to travel to and from the robbery. Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Maywood Police Department launched a joint investigation that uncovered additional participants involved in planning and executing the heist.
Urbano was located in Detroit with help from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Protection and was extradited to Bergen County on November 19. Castillo remains at large.
Earlier arrests in the investigation included Beiker Aguilera Areyan, Daniel Rivas-Alvarado, Yeison Amarante Bolivar, and Jhon Requena Yerena, who were detained between June and October 2024. Three of the men remain in Bergen County Jail, while Amarante Bolivar is being held in Florida pending extradition.
Authorities continue to pursue Castillo and are urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to come forward.
