VINTON, La. (KPLC) – Two men from Starks are in custody after allegedly stealing copper lines and tampering with video surveillance at a property in Vinton on February 14.
Deputies with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported burglary in progress around 4 a.m. on Bellow Road. Upon investigation, it was determined that the suspects had broken through a fence to access the property, where they then cut and stole copper lines, causing significant damage to the infrastructure.
Deputies spotted a suspicious vehicle nearby on Stanley Road. The occupants, Harley J. Morgan II, 45, and Brian K. Karg, 28, admitted to being responsible for the burglary and theft. Karg also mentioned that another unknown suspect was involved in the incident.
Both Morgan and Karg were arrested and face multiple charges, including:
Simple burglary
Theft of less than $1,000
Unauthorized entry of critical infrastructure
Simple criminal damage to property (ranging from $1,000-$50,000)
Tampering with surveillance cameras
Their bonds have been set at $31,000 each.
The investigation into the crime is ongoing, and authorities have indicated that additional arrests may be made as the case progresses.
