In a significant operation, the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) seized 1.33 kg of hybrid ganja worth Rs 40 lakh during a late-night raid in Surat’s Sachin area. Acting on a tip-off, the DCB team intercepted two individuals attempting to smuggle the high-quality contraband into the city as part of an international drug trafficking operation.
The arrested suspects, Suleman Bhamji (30) from Navsari and Shubham Sumra (28) from Surat, were found in possession of the illicit drugs. According to the police, the ganja seized in this operation is of international quality, typically seen at major entry points such as airports or foreign post offices. Authorities indicated that the drugs are usually sold through the ‘Dark Web’ to avoid detection by law enforcement agencies.
Yash Rathod, a Surat resident from Dabholi, has been identified as the mastermind behind the consignment. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Bhavesh Rojiya stated that further investigations suggest additional individuals may be involved in this smuggling racket. Authorities are pursuing leads to apprehend any other suspects connected to the operation.
The DCB’s successful raid highlights their continued efforts to curb drug trafficking in the region, especially operations tied to international smuggling syndicates.
