The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Avadi police arrested two individuals on Saturday in connection with a land fraud case involving the sale of a property worth Rs 1.17 crore using forged documents, including an expired power of attorney.

The case came to light after S Reganpal of Kodungaiyur filed a complaint stating that a 3.86-acre land in Ambattur, purchased by his late mother Ingrid Leena in 2005, was unlawfully taken over by the accused.

Reganpal revealed that in 2006, a group led by A Murari, Kamala E Sharma, and K Sadasivam attempted to usurp the land and issued a power of attorney to R Ramakannan. A civil court case filed regarding this is still ongoing.

However, in April 2023, multiple individuals allegedly executed a sale deed using the expired power of attorney, as Murari had already passed away. A forged ‘life certificate’ was also used to facilitate the land sale registration at the Red Hills sub-registrar office. The property, valued at over Rs 1 crore, was sold for a fraction of its worth to Ramakrishnan, Gnanamoorthy, V Kanchana, and Kumaravel.

Following a complaint, Avadi CCB registered a case and arrested Ramakrishnan and Gnanamoorthy from Tiruvallur district. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the fraud.
