PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — Two people were arrested in Plattsburgh following an attempted fraud scheme targeting an elderly resident, according to New York State Police.

Chendong Wu, 42, and Feitao Chen, 40, were apprehended earlier this month for allegedly attempting to coerce the victim into withdrawing nearly $30,000 from her bank account.

Investigators said the pair contacted the woman, claiming to represent the Department of Treasury or the Department of Fraud, and falsely asserted that her local bank was misusing her funds.

Surveillance teams arrested Wu and Chen during the attempted pickup on October 17. Chen was briefly pursued on foot before being taken into custody.

Officials confirmed both suspects are Chinese citizens. Chen faces charges of grand larceny and resisting arrest, while Wu was charged with attempted grand larceny. Both are scheduled to appear in court on November 5.

Homeland Security Investigations was notified, and the suspects were turned over to federal authorities for further action.
