KATHMANDU, Nepal — Two individuals have been arrested in Kathmandu for defrauding people with false promises of high-paying jobs in Canada and Japan.
Sharda Karki, 39, from Parsagadhi Municipality-3, Parsa, now residing in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-32, and Rabin Shrestha, 30, from Satyawati Rural Municipality-1, Gulmi, currently living in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-8, are accused of luring victims with fake job offers and collecting large sums of money.
According to police reports, Sharda swindled five victims, taking a total of Rs 685,500 with promises of sending them to Canada for employment. Rabin allegedly defrauded one victim of Rs 2,050,000, claiming he could arrange a job in Japan. After receiving the money, both individuals reportedly became unreachable, prompting the victims to file complaints.
A team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku arrested Sharda from Teku on Sunday and Rabin from Kalopul on Friday. Following their arrests, Sharda was transferred to the Kathmandu District Police Office for further investigation, while Rabin was handed over to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal for additional legal proceedings.
The police are continuing their investigation into the fraud cases and have urged the public to remain vigilant when dealing with individuals or agencies offering overseas employment opportunities.
