HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. — Two suspects have been arrested after they allegedly used stolen credit cards at multiple businesses across Humboldt County, while a third remains at large.
The investigation began on August 1, when the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) received a report of a vehicle break-in in the 200 block of F Street, Blue Lake, which occurred the previous night. Deputies quickly identified three suspects who reportedly used the stolen credit cards at various locations in the county.
Michael Dwayne Vanwert, 41, and Crystle Dawn Angel, 35, both of Eureka, were arrested following the investigation. The pair had been previously arrested for similar crimes just months earlier. Vanwert now faces petty theft with prior convictions, fraudulent use of a credit card, conspiracy, and probation violation charges. Angel, similarly, has been charged with grand theft, shoplifting, and conspiracy.
The third suspect has been identified by authorities, but remains at large as HCSO continues to investigate.
