In a significant breakthrough, police arrested two individuals involved in the robbery of 117 sovereigns of gold from an employee of a jewellery manufacturing firm in Kattungal, near Manjeri, on Saturday night.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Sivesh (26), an employee of the firm, and his brother Bensu (39), both residents of Thirurkkad. According to police, on Saturday, Sivesh was returning on a scooter with another employee, Nikhila Bangles, after supplying gold to jewellers in Malappuram. The gold ornaments were stored in the scooter’s storage compartment for safekeeping.

While on their way, Sivesh instructed his brother Bensu and other accomplices to steal the gold. Bensu and his associates took the gold from the parked scooter, while Sivesh diverted Nikhila Bangles to a nearby shop to have juice, creating an opportunity for the theft.

Following a complaint, the police conducted an investigation and arrested the accused brothers. The authorities are continuing their probe into the incident to identify any further accomplices involved in the theft.
