Hiriyadka Police arrested two individuals, Sandesh (31) and Sushanth (32), both residents of Hiriyadka, in connection with an attempted murder case that occurred on Thursday night in Udupi. According to Udupi SP Arun K, the accused have claimed that the attempted murder was carried out as retaliation for the Bajpe murder incident.

The incident took place around 11:15 pm, when the complainant, Abubakkar (50), a resident of Badagabettu, received a call from an acquaintance named Dinesh, requesting a ride from Madaga to Athradi. Abubakkar set out in his rickshaw to pick up Dinesh. However, while nearing the Athradi gas petrol bunk on the main road, two individuals on a motorcycle started following him.

The duo allegedly began shouting abusive language and instructed the complainant to stop his vehicle. They then attempted to block his path. As Abubakkar continued driving, he noticed that the pillion rider was holding a sword-like weapon and was being threatened. Fearing for his life, Abubakkar stopped near a bus driver’s house at Shedigudde and attempted to flee. One of the attackers swung the sword at his head, but Abubakkar managed to dodge the blow. The other attacker struck the rickshaw’s front glass with a bottle. Realizing their intent to kill him, Abubakkar jumped over a nearby compound wall and managed to escape.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Sandesh and Sushanth were not personally acquainted with the complainant. Sandesh is a rowdy-sheeter under Hiriyadka police jurisdiction and has several criminal cases registered against him. He was sentenced to two years of imprisonment in 2019 and has filed an appeal in the sessions court. Sushanth has a criminal case registered against him at Hiriyadka police station, while no cases are registered against the complainant.

A case has been registered at Hiriyadka police station, and the investigation is ongoing.
