The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has arrested two individuals for allegedly committing fraud at several Home Depot stores in southern Ontario and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The suspects are accused of using fraudulent credit cards and IDs to make large purchases, resulting in losses estimated at $100,000.
HRPS officers were dispatched to the Home Depot on 99 Cross Avenue in Oakville on July 11, 2024, after reports of a suspect attempting to fraudulently buy expensive items. Although the suspect fled the scene before police arrived, a rental vehicle linked to the individual was located nearby.
Upon searching the vehicle, investigators found property belonging to Home Depot, as well as several fraudulent credit cards and identification documents. Police were able to identify the suspect, who had allegedly been using fake Home Depot gift and credit cards, along with fraudulent IDs, to purchase items at stores throughout southern Ontario and the GTA between May and July 2024.
As the investigation unfolded, authorities discovered the involvement of a second suspect. On Wednesday, 30-year-old Huguens Charlescat of Etobicoke was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including possession of property obtained by crime, fraud over $5,000, and personation with intent. Charlescat remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
Additionally, 29-year-old Melissa Levesque, also of Etobicoke, was arrested and charged with fraud over $5,000. She was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on September 17, 2024.
