Marikina City — Two men were arrested Thursday morning after allegedly stealing solar lights and their components along a jogging lane in Barangay Nangka, according to the Marikina City Police Station.
Police said the theft was discovered by a barangay inspector during a routine inspection around 9:30 a.m. on March 5, when several solar lights were found missing from the jogging lane.
Barangay personnel, along with officers from the police station’s Station Intelligence Section, immediately conducted a follow-up operation that led to the arrest of the suspects, identified only by their aliases “Abdul,” 29, and “Dava,” 23.
Authorities said the two were caught in the act of dismantling the solar lights. A witness told investigators that Dava climbed the lamp post and removed the lighting unit while Abdul placed the dismantled parts into a sack.
Recovered items included fragmented aluminum sidings valued at ₱550, a box of aluminum holders and plates worth ₱700, a solar panel with an LED light valued at ₱5,000, and four battery packs worth ₱3,200. Officials confirmed the items belong to Barangay Nangka.
The suspects are currently detained at the Marikina City Police Station custodial facility and are facing theft charges.
