In a significant breakthrough, Nabarangpur police arrested two individuals in connection with a robbery that occurred on the evening of January 13. The suspects are accused of stealing Rs14 lakh in cash and gold from businessman Saroj Kumar Mohanty’s residence in Nabarangpur town.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Chinmay Kumar Sahoo (37), a resident of Baisinga village under Kamakhyanagar police limits in Dhenkanal district, and Sriman Kumar Ghadei (39), a resident of Keuta Sahi in Nabarangpur.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mihir Kumar Panda explained that after the robbery, the police quickly formed a special investigation team (SIT), led by Additional SP Aditya Sen, along with the SDPO and IIC of Nabarangpur, and a special squad. Despite the lack of previous criminal records for the suspects, the team worked tirelessly and tracked down the accused.
The investigation revealed that one of the suspects, Sriman Kumar Ghadei, had frequented the victim’s house under the pretense of being a neighbor. The suspects carefully planned the robbery, which resulted in them stealing Rs14 lakh. Afterward, they divided the loot, with each taking Rs7 lakh.
During the investigation, police recovered Rs11.23 lakh, along with three mobile phones and gold items. The mobile phones were used during the crime, and a knife used in the robbery was also seized.
ACP Panda assured that the investigation will continue, and the authorities are working on additional leads to bring all those involved to justice. The two accused will soon be presented in court for further proceedings.
