In a significant breakthrough, a special squad led by Perumbavoor Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) arrested two men, Sabu aka Spider Sabu (53) and Ajith (30), who were accused of involvement in more than 50 theft cases across the state. The arrests were made in Angamaly on September 11, after the duo was allegedly plotting another theft in the area.

The two suspects were taken into custody in connection with a robbery that took place on August 30 within the Kunnathunadu police station limits. The stolen items included Rs25,000 in cash, jewellery, smartwatches, a pen camera, and a tablet. According to the police, this was one of many crimes committed by the duo, whose criminal activities spanned across several regions.

The police squad, working on intelligence reports and continuous surveillance, tracked down Sabu and Ajith in Angamaly, where they were believed to be plotting their next heist. The arrests followed a string of thefts, and authorities suspect the duo’s involvement in dozens of similar crimes across the state.

Sabu aka Spider Sabu, a notorious figure known for his involvement in high-profile thefts, was believed to be the mastermind behind many of the crimes. His accomplice, Ajith, assisted in executing the thefts and distributing the stolen goods. The suspects had been operating for years, targeting houses, businesses, and vehicles in various areas.

The accused would usually stake out their targets for days, waiting for the opportune moment to strike. They would often use sophisticated tools to break into homes and businesses. Once inside, they would steal valuables, including cash, electronics, and jewellery, before fleeing the scene.

In the latest case, the suspects targeted a house in Kunnathunadu, stealing a variety of items, including Rs25,000, and luxury items such as smartwatches and jewellery. They had been planning a similar robbery in Angamaly before their arrest.

Sabu, known for his previous criminal record, had been on the run for years, with police files indicating his involvement in over 50 theft cases. His nickname, Spider Sabu, was earned due to his intricate and deceptive methods of breaking into properties without getting caught. Ajith, although a relatively newer addition to the gang, had quickly risen to prominence due to his participation in these crimes.
