Two Arrested for Impersonation in NIO Job Exam, Goa

Panaji police nab Uttar Pradesh residents for exam fraud

by Ananya Mehta

Panaji police have arrested two Uttar Pradesh residents in connection with an impersonation case during a job examination at the CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) in Dona Paula. The arrests follow a complaint lodged by Rakesh Shukla, Controller of Administration at NIO, on July 15.

Between 9 am and 10 am, Sunil Kumar, 26, from Prayagraj, was caught impersonating the registered candidate Prashant Kumar from Bijnor during the national exam for a junior administration post. Notably, the real candidate Prashant Kumar was present outside the examination centre, violating recruitment rules.

NIO’s complaint highlighted that both individuals conspired to cheat the examination authority by having Sunil Kumar take the exam on behalf of Prashant Kumar. Based on the complaint, Panaji police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and arrested both accused, confirmed Panaji PI Vijaykumar Chodankar.
