On Saturday, January 11, two individuals were arrested at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal, for attempting to smuggle 31.78 kilograms of cannabis (ganja) to Delhi.

The arrested suspects were identified as Rojit Chongtham, 29, of Singjamei Chongtham Leikai in Imphal West, and Sarangthem Dingku, 33, from Kakching Khunou Thingnam Bokul Leikai in Kakching district. They were booked on Indigo flight 6E-2417, which was scheduled for Delhi.

During routine baggage screening at the airport, CISF personnel discovered the contraband concealed in three separate bags. The bags contained 16.520 kg of cannabis in a red bag, 9.580 kg in a black bag, and 5.680 kg in a green bag, making up a total of 31.78 kg.

The accused and the seized cannabis were handed over to Singjamei police station for further investigation. Authorities confirmed that the cannabis was identified during X-ray baggage scans.

Police are currently investigating the origin of the cannabis and exploring potential links to a larger drug trafficking network.
