Jammu and Kashmir — The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) conducted a significant anti-drug operation in South Kashmir, arresting two individuals and seizing approximately 39 kilograms of poppy straw in the Bijbehara area of Anantnag district.

The operation, carried out on July 8-9, led to the seizure of 28 kg of poppy straw and the arrest of Shabir, a resident of Nowshera, and Amin from Kanelwan, both in Anantnag. Following their interrogation, officials recovered an additional 11 kg of poppy straw from Shabir’s premises.

Notably, Shabir is a former member of the banned Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and had been arrested in 1996 on terror-related charges before his release in 2004. Amin has prior involvement in drug cases, including a 2017 case in Himachal Pradesh and a major seizure of 523 kg poppy straw in Anantnag.

The NCB’s successful crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and maintain law and order in the region.
