Two absconding accused in the Kamlesh Danu murder case were arrested on Wednesday near the suspension bridge connecting Nepal and India at Dharchula.
Kamlesh Danu (23), a resident of Dharchula, was stabbed to death on June 7. His father, Goverdhan Singh, filed an FIR on June 8 against Chandu Khair, Sachin Nabiyal, and Ramesh Singh at Dharchula police station. The accused reportedly fled to Nepal after committing the crime.
The delay in their arrest sparked public outrage in Dharchula, with residents closing the market and halting movement on the border bridge. On June 16, the public issued a 10-day ultimatum to authorities, while police announced a cash reward of Rs 10,000 for information leading to the capture of the fugitives and deployed four teams to track them down.
SP Rekha Yadav stated that on June 26, the main accused, Chandu Khair, was arrested from Mahihar Goth in Tanakpur, Champawat district. The remaining two accused were apprehended near the suspension bridge on Wednesday.
Both arrested individuals have been presented before a judicial magistrate and remanded to seven days of judicial custody.
