Police arrested two men in connection with the murder of 20-year-old Arbaaz Khan in Jajmau on Wednesday. The accused reportedly strangled Arbaaz with a wire and stabbed him multiple times in the neck in retaliation for harassing the sister of one of the assailants. Both have now been remanded to judicial custody.
Arbaaz Khan, son of Riyaz and a loader driver from Bajpai Nagar, had left home late Monday night after receiving a phone call. When he failed to return, a search ensued. His body was discovered the next morning near the riverbank, about 100 meters from his residence.
According to DCP East Satyajit Gupta, Arbaaz’s father filed an FIR naming five suspects, including a father and son. The case was linked to Shoaib, a neighbor who had allegedly harassed Arbaaz’s sister in 2023, leading to a prior police complaint.
During the investigation, Shoaib admitted to planning the murder with his accomplice Sameer. Sameer confessed to the crime, stating they lured Arbaaz to the riverbank on Monday night and killed him. They even took pictures with the body before disposing of the murder weapon in the river.
The police continue to investigate the case, including probing the other accused and related individuals.
