by Ananya Mehta

In a tragic incident near Ettayapuram, Tuticorin, a 48-year-old man allegedly killed his son during a midnight altercation over the repair of a two-wheeler.

The deceased, Kanagaraj (22), reportedly struggled with drug addiction and frequent verbal confrontations with his parents in Tiruvallur district. In hopes of reforming him, his parents had sent him to live with his grandparents in Ettayapuram.

Police sources said that on Sunday, Kanagaraj’s parents visited after receiving reports of his repeated arguments with his grandparents and demands for money. Around 12:15 am on Monday, a dispute arose when Kanagaraj asked his father, Balachandran (48), to repair his motorcycle.

The verbal argument escalated into physical violence. In a fit of rage, Balachandran allegedly struck his son with a wooden log and then hit him with a grinding stone, resulting in a severe head injury. Kanagaraj died on the spot.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal family dispute.
